12 days after Lakewood Police found an adult female pit bull mix dog who had died of apparent gunshot wounds, police have made arrests in connection to the dog's death.
The department announced in a release that on Aug. 13 just before 7 p.m., officers and the Special Enforcement Team with Lakewood Police arrested 42-year-old Sean Andrews and 40-year-old Desiree Andrews for the shooting of the dog. The two suspects are both from Arvada and were arrested at a residence in the 2800 block of South Ivan Way in Denver.
Both suspects were jailed at the Jefferson County Jail on charges of aggravated cruelty to animals and possession of a weapon by a previous offender. Desiree Andrews was also charged for violation of bond conditions.
The dog was found dead on Aug. 1 after Lakewood Police responded to calls of shots fired near the intersection of 12th and Teller. Police say witnesses saw a woman and a man pull up and park near the intersection in a silver Chrysler 300. The woman shot the dog while the man struggled with it and held it down, the release says. The suspects immediately fled the scene, and police are still searching for the silver Chrysler 300.
The vehicle has an expired Colorado temporary tag 1681668. If you see it, call Lakewood Police at 303-980-7300.
