Golden's former fire chief, Alicia Welch, has been placed on administrative leave from her California fire department after she was arrested on suspicion of felony domestic violence.

Welch, who served the Golden Fire Department from November 2018 until July 2021, is now the fire chief in Lompoc, California.

According to The Lompoc Record, Welch was arrested on May 29 following an incident at a home in Cambria, California. Law enforcement records suggest the incident was related to spousal abuse.

Afterward, Lompoc City Manager Dean Albro told The Record that Welch was placed on paid leave following an incident over the weekend in San Luis Obispo County but did not provide details.

"As this matter is an ongoing criminal and administrative investigation, the city of Lompoc will not issue further comment at this time," Albro said.

Welch is scheduled to appear before a judge at 8 a.m. June 14, the Record described.

Welch, who was in Golden for two-and-a-half years, was both Golden's and Lompoc's first female fire chief. She was sworn in at Lompoc on August 17.

In a July 2021 interview with the Transcript as she was leaving GFD, Welch explained that California's her home state and that she was moving there to be closer to her aging parents.
