Electric vehicle drivers in Arvada have a new charging station to help curb range anxiety. EVgo, a nationwide provider of fast chargers for electric vehicles, opened six charging stations in the Lloyd King Center parking lot, located at 6350 Sheridan Boulevard, on Oct. 26.

Four of the chargers are capable of charging up to 180 miles in 15 minutes, while the other two can charge up to 90 miles in the same timeframe. With the opening of the Arvada chargers, EVgo now has 86 chargers in Colo., and over 800 chargers across 34 states nationally.

Colorado Lieutenant Governor Diane Primavera, State House District 32 Representative Adrienne Benavidez, Executive Director of the Colorado Energy Office Will Toor and Arvada Mayor Marc Williams were on hand for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“People in House District 32 are primarily low and mid-income, and I think that's what we've been missing with electric vehicles,” said Benavidez, “how do you make it accessible to low-and mid-income people?”

Primavera touted the Colo.'s progress in moving towards the state's plan to have about a million electric vehicles on the road by 2030.

“I drive by here every day on my way to Broomfield. The Polis-Primavera administration has settling term goals to mitigate pollution and made tremendous progress in the last two years towards having one million electric vehicles on the road by 2030,” said Primavera. “Electric vehicles aren't just a luxury, but a smart choice.”

Williams said the city supported the statewide effort to get more EV's on the road.

“These new EV fast chargers will help further advance Colorado's electrification and climate goals and expand valuable access to public charging for residents and travelers alike,” said Williams. “The city of Arvada is committed to moving away from the combustion engine. It's the right thing to do.”
